Lewis Industrial scaffold towers

The Lewis industrial ladder framed towers are available in over 16 different heights, two different lengths and two widths. This product is ideal for all types of industrial applications including building sites and factories. Ladder framed towers are by far the most popular type of industrial scaffold towers in the Uk. We do actually manufacture another system which we call the Lewis 2500. This system does not have a ladder incorporated into the frames, it has 250mm rung spacing so you climb the rungs rather then a ladder. The main benefit of the Lewis 2500 is the variables in platform heights, you have twice as many then the Lewis Ladder frame towers and this is more suitable when working inside buildings.

Lewis Miniscaff Folding Tower

The Lewis Trade MINISCAFF folding tower is ideal for any tradesman or jobber when a industrial unit is to large to use. The MINISCAFF can be used in confined spaces and transported around quit easily in the back of a small van or an estate car. The MINISCAFF components are based on the industrial tower but made in to a small compact unit that measures only 750mm wide and 1800mm long. The maximum platform height of this unit is 6.1m

All of our products ranging from our industrial scaffolding towers to access ladders, carry the BSI Kite mark as proof our commitment to quality and standards.
Our Aluminium Scaffolding towers are made of top quality prime material and conforms to the British Standard for scaffoy ld towers & tube BS1139:1994 (now changed to European Standard EN1004).
Our tubes are 2inches thick in diameter because one of the main things to watch out for when buying an aluminium tower or any other aluminium based access at height equipment is the tube diameter and thickness for safety and durability. As a general rule the greater the diameter of the tube in the verticals, the more stable is the tower. Hence the thickness in the diameter of 2 inches in our tubes.
Two Important Height Measurements.
Scaffolding Towers are mostly used at building and construction sites where access to heights above the ground level is required. As a user or a buyer, it is important that you understand the different two height measurements that you should be taking into consideration when buying a scaffold tower.
The first is what is commonly referred to in the trade as Platform Height.
The best way to describe this is simply with you standing on the platform of the scaffold tower, how far high up from the ground are your feet? I guess the best way to explain this is by using an example. Say, you are a painter and you want to paint the gutter on a one- story building. The scaffold tower that you should be buying, should be one that is high enough to allow you to stand up on the platform and be able to reach the gutter without tip-toeing. If you have to tip-toe to reach the height, not only is this dangerous, it also means that you are using the wrong platform height tower for the job.
All our scaffolding towers come with safety guard-rails. At times towers are measured from the bottom of the tower to the top of the safety guard-rails. Please bear this in mind when ordering your tower. (The height of the tower including the safety guard-rails becomes important if you are using the aluminium scaffolding tower for an indoors job such as re-decorating the inside ceiling of a Church building).
However, this is not the same thing as the platform height. Standing on the platform, you should be able to reach the ceiling without over-reaching, over-stretching or crouching.
The minimum distance between the platform height and the top of the guard-rails cannot be less than 1 metre (a legal requirement). Also, the guard rail must have a 50mm knee rail half way the distance between the platform and the top of the guard-rail (i.e. at 450mm). The balance 50mm been the hand rail at the top of the guard-rail.
The second is the Working Height.
Now, assuming that you have the first measurement sorted out - you got the right platform height tower for the job at hand, the next important thing to consider is the working height.
A lot of people take this for granted. What exactly do we mean by working height? This is the height at which while standing on the platform on the tower, you are able to easily and comfortably carry out your work without putting yourself or anybody else at risk of harm.
Examples been you have over-extended the platform on the tower and you now have to stoop to paint the outside of the gutter or crouch to paint the ceiling (in the church example above). Ideally, you should be painting the gutter with your arm extended straight out shoulder height – allowing for minor variations, and for the church, your arm slightly bent at the elbows. The second example is where the platform is too low and you are having to tip-toe. Either way, you are working at the wrong working height.
The good news is provided you have purchased the right platform height tower, you can always adjust the height of the working height to suit. However, if you have ordered or bought the wrong platform height scaffold tower, your options are very limited without putting yourself or somebody else’s life at risk.
If in doubt or you require guidance on choosing the right platform height / working height tower, please call us on 0845 257 5991 (eight lines) and we will work with you to ensure the tower you are buying is the right one for you and the job.
Finally, with the tower that you are buying, you should be able to access the highest point that you need to access without over-stretching or over-reaching
