George Mullins Heading into Autumn with a BangWith the summer months now behind us, the golfers on the Jamega Pro Golf Tour are all searching not only for valuable wins but also some good rhythm and form to take into the autumn and winter months.
Having played well towards the end of August, George Mullins was delighted to receive some gifts from two of the top names in the world of golf. The first was a selection of golf club grips from Golf Pride Grips and the second gift was a set of clubs from the world-renowned Taylor Made Golf company.
To not only be on the radar of these quality golf brands but to be awarded equipment by them to use in tournament play underlines how far Mullins has come this year.
However, the hard work does not stop there and the real test has only just begun. Having played very well in the first round of the Windmill Hill in mid-August, the tournament was ended after the first round, which was a shame as Mullins was well placed to challenge for the victory.
Nevertheless, these things happen in golf and Mullins headed to the PGA Europro Tour Pentahotels Championship in great confidence.
This confidence transformed itself into three excellent rounds of golf at Caversham Heath Golf Club. Mullins could not have asked for a better start as he played superbly to shot a 67, six under par in the first round.
These 18 holes showcased Mullins at his very best, starting the round with three straight birdies, which was a signal of intent to the rest of the field. An eagle followed at the par-5 6th hole and despite registering a bogey on the 12th, Mullins recovered with another birdie on the 15th to cap off a great day's play.
The second and third rounds proved to be more of a battle and although things did not go exactly to plan, Mullins showed his battling qualities to go around at even par in the second round and one under in the third. Every golfer struggled to put together three rounds of their very best golf, so Mullins was not alone in that department.
In fact, the winner of the event, South Korea's Min Kyu Kim scored a 73 in his final round, one shot more than Mullins who went on to finish T10 in a very high-quality tournament.
Having competed two PGA Europro Tour qualifying school tournaments earlier this year, this was the first major tournament for Mullins on the tour and it was a brilliant experience. Not only did it allow the young Englishman to compete with and out-perform some very talented golfers, it also came with the bonus of some television coverage on Sky Sports.
Mullins was featured on Sky Sports making a good approach shot and birdie putt on the 7th hole. Hopefully it was the first of many appearances on televised golf.
