George Mullins in Preparation for Europro QualifyingWatching professional golfers go about their business on sun drenched courses around the world makes the sport look easy. However, working up the ranks to get to the top of professional golf requires not only talent but hard work and dedication.
A great example of this is the preparation of young golfer, George Mullins, as he looks towards the Europro Qualifying event on the 28th and 29th March.
This is the first stage of the PGA EuroPro Tour Qualifying School and it will take place across several golf courses in the United Kingdom. The final stage of the qualifying event is due to be held at Frilford Heath Golf Club the following week, which is the usual venue for this stage of Europro Qualifying.
The six venues making up the qualifying rounds include Mannings Heath Golf Club and Wine Estate, The Players Club, Caversham Heath Golf Club, Formby Hall Golf Club, and Haggs Castle Golf Club, all of which have staged tournaments on Europro qualifying in the past, so should be familiar for returning players.
This includes Mullins, who participated in the event in 2017 and finished T9 in Qualifying School Stage 1 at The Players Club, Codrington Course.
The Englishman finished with a total score of 143 across the two rounds and progressed to the Final Qualifying School, which was played on the Blue Course at Frilford Heath Golf Club. It was the second time Mullins reached this stage of qualifying but unfortunately, he missed the cut following the second round.
However, the experience gained by Mullins will hold him in good stead ahead of this year's event and he has been busy practicing in Portugal in the lead up to the tournament.
Mullins has been based in Portugal throughout January and February, where the weather is more favourable than the UK during the winter months. This has given Mullins the opportunity to practice and work on some technical changes to his game, ready for the start of Europro Qualifying in March.
Not only has Mullins been working on technical changes, he has also been setting a good process ahead of the new season. Having a process, which feels comfortable and brings out the best in a golfer is a great tool for success and it will be intriguing to see the progress Mullins has made in that department.
As the Europro Qualifying events move closer, Mullins plans to up the playing time and start practicing his short game. He touched on how playing a round of golf, as opposed to simply practicing elements of his game in isolation, is very important and will help when the first tournament begins.
By playing rounds of golf in preparation for the Europro Qualifying tournament, it will feel just like another round to Mullins and not something new. This will help ease the pressure and the familiarity of playing a full round of golf will assist in Mullins making progress through Europro Qualifying this season.
