George Mullins Summer Season 2019
Hi everyone, this is George Mullins to let you know how my summer season has been going so far!
22-24th May - Brocket Hall - Europro
This was my first tournament of the year. It is a great course, in lovely condition. Play went nicely and there were lots of positives but I missed the cut by 1 shot.
29-31 May - Harleyford Europro
After gaining confidence and getting the first event out the way, Harleyford was a lot more successful finishing T27th with a score of -7
5-7th June - Donnington Europro
This was a disappointing week as I had a lot of confidence going into the week, but the game of golf is full of small margins and unfortunately I missed the cut by 1 shot, due to a couple of careless mistakes.
11-13th - Portugal
There was no tournament this week, which meant I could go out to Portugal and get some real good work in. My coach, Steve Bainbridge, is based at the Cascade Resort, Lagos, it is his own academy.
19-21 June - Cumberwell
After a good week in Portugal getting some good work done, I played really nicely, but just didn't score as well as I should have finishing T44th with a score of -6
Open Qualifying @ Burhill
I played really solid, and made some good saves coming in but unfortunately bogeyed the last to miss the cut by 1 shot, shooting -2
I was gutted to miss that as that's a big opportunity but again, so many positives again from that round.
Then I had about a week off, before Linden Hall and Portall Hall.
3-5th July Linden Hall and 10-12th Portall Hall
These were back to back tournaments in Newcastle and Liverpool.
There was lots of travelling that I think that got the better of me. This was a big learning curve.
It made me realise that it was not so much physically but mentally demanding. but it is all learning and progression.
Next week TP tour @ Walton Heath on the Monday
I won this event 2 years ago so was hoping to get that win again.
I got off to a slow start being +3 thru 4 but battled hard to finish Level finishing T12th
After this I had the rest of the week off / practice
Unfortunately I picked up a niggle on my calf, where there is a torn muscle
So that was a struggle all of that week, with lots of physio. I haven't been injured for ages so for me this was mentally difficult but again, I was reminded about learning when to listen to your own body and not to over do it
24-26th July @ Caversham Europro
So played Europro this week at Caversham golf course
Shot scores of +1 -5 -4 total of -8 to finish T24th
Considering my injury and I could hardly get down the stairs Monday morning, this is a really good result, big thanks to Laura @ Pureform for sorting out some physio to enable me to compete this week
In the 2nd round I made 10 birdies, unfortunately a couple of loose errors didn't allow me to shoot as low as I should have, but to make 10 shots on the course is a massive confidence boost
Now I'm off to Portugal for a family holiday to relax, let my leg mend but also to see my coach, Steve Bainbridge, to do some light training and keep things ticking over nicely.
